How can I Vote?

  • It is mandatory for your name to be register in the Voter List / Electoral rolls if you want to vote.
  • In order to register you have to submit a filled in Form – 6 to the ERO(Electoral Registration Officer) of the Assembly Constituency

How can I get myself registered/enrolled in the Electoral Roll?

Proof of Address:

Fill up the full and complete postal address including PIN code where you are ordinarily residing and want to get registered, in the space provided.

Proof of ordinary residence to be attached are as under:

  1. Bank / Kisan / Post Office current Pass Book, or
  2. Applicant’s Ration Card / Passport / Driving License / Income Tax Return filed or Assessment Order, or
  3. Latest Water / Telephone / Electricity / Gas Connection Bill for that address, either in the name of the applicant or that of his / her immediate relation like parents etc., or
  4. Postal department’s posts received / delivered in the applicant’s name at the given address.

NOTE: In case of homeless persons, the BLO will visit the address given in Form 6 at night to ascertain that the homeless person actually sleeps at the place which is given as his address in Form 6. If the BLO is able to verify that the homeless person actually sleeps at that place, no documentary proof of place of residence shall be necessary. BLO must visit for more than one night for such verification

Proof of Age:

  1. Birth certificate issued by a Municipal Authorities or district office of the Registrar of Births & Deaths or Baptism certificate; or
  2. Birth certificate from the school (Govt. / Recognized) last attended by the applicant or any other recognized educational institution; or
  3. If a person is class 10 or more pass, he should give a copy of the mark sheet of class 10 , if it contains date of birth as a proof of date of birth; or
  4. Marksheet of class 8 if it contains date of birth; or
  5. Marksheet of class 5 if it contains date of birth; or
  6. A declaration in prescribed format given in Annexure-1 made by either of his parents if the person is not educated till class 10 (In those cases where parental declaration is given as proof of age, the applicant will have to be present himself for verification before BLO/ERO/AERO); or
  7. A certificate of his age given by a sarpanch of the concerned Gram Panchayat or by a member of the concerned Municipal Corporation / Municipal Committee, the person is not educated till class 10 and both the parents are not alive; or
  8. Indian Passport containing date of birth

** If you are in the age group of 18-25 and if you do not have a proof of age then submit Form of Oath . It is to be made by either of the parents/Guru of the first time applicant in the age group of 18-25 years who has no age proof.

Who can file form 6?

    • Every Indian citizen who has attained the age of 18 years on the qualifying date i.e. first of January of the year of revision of electoral roll, unless otherwise disqualified, is eligible to be registered as a voter in the roll of the polling area of the constituency where he is ordinarily resident. The applicant should have completed eighteen years of age as on 1st January of the year.
    • For example, if the application is for inclusion of name in the electoral roll with reference to 01-01-2011 as the qualifying date, the applicant should have completed 18 years as on 01-01-2011.

OR

  • Person shifting his / her place of ordinary residence outside the constituency in which he / she is already registered.

Can I vote if I don’t have a Voter ID card?

  • Yes you can vote if you don’t have a Voter ID / Electors’ Photo Identity Card (EPIC) card but it is mandatory that your name should be present in the Voter list / Electoral roll. You can show a valid photo identity card like the driving license, passport on the day of polling as an alternative for Voter’s ID card.
  • To add/enroll your name in the Voter list / Electoral roll you need to file Form – 6. Instructions for enrolling name in the Voter List can be found above.
  • On the contrary a mere possession of a Voter ID card issued to you does not guarantee you your vote because it is mandatory that your name should appear in the Voter list / Electoral roll.

What is a Voter ID card ? What is EPIC ?

  • Voter ID card or Electoral Photo Identity Card (EPIC) is an identity document issued by the Electoral Registration Officer under Rule 28 of Registration of Electors Rules. The EPIC contains details of the elector like Name, Father’s/Mother’s/Husband’s Name, Date of Birth/Age on the qualifying date, Sex, Address and most importantly, the photograph of the elector.

  Correction in the Electoral rolls

 

My name is incorrect in the electoral rolls / Voter list, how can I correct it ?

  • You can file Form 8 seeking correction to your particulars like name, age, date of birth, relations name, sex, address already printed in the electoral roll. One person cannot file application in Form 8 for correction in the particulars of any other person.

I have changed my address. How can I vote in the new address polling station?

  • In case the new house/residence is in the same constituency as the previous house/residence please fill Form 8A otherwise Form 6 and submit to the ERO (SDM) or the AERO of the area of your new residence.

How can I transfer my Voter id from one city to another?

  • We assume you mean that you have shifted your residence from one city to another and that you want to enroll your name in the voter list.
  • In case the new residence is in the same constituency as the previous residence please fill Form 8A otherwise Form 6 and submit to the ERO (SDM) or the AERO of the area of your new residence.
